Don't Blame Your Hair!!!

I remember years ago,on days just like this, I would be cursing the Gods in heaven because my pin straight flat-ironed natural (non chemically treated) hair was a frizz puff the likes of which a cotton ball would envy! I'm  here to tell you, with all due respect and love in the world.... BACK OFF!!! For YOUR own sanity!!! It's not your hairs fault!!!!! You have hair that moves and expands with elements! Your hair has life and personality! My advice to you is to prepare yourself. Check the weather... If it's going to be rainy out humid, be smart, forgo the flat iron and blow dryer and go curly and natural!  You'll save yourself the drama! #fact

Seek Truth

Throughout this journey that I have been on I have realized one thing.......all paths seem to lead back to this one thing.... the only thing.... the truth. The soul stirring truth. The knock you down just to lift you up HIGHER truth. If your not ready for it then you'll stay down and play possum until the hard road is over but if you are ready, open and wise you will see this truth for the beauty that it is. The power of its cleanse, the beauty in the untainted light within you..... it's an introduction to the real you.... the release of your soul.

Is Your Relaxer destroying your length and Body?

Is there a connection??  Ask any woman who has lived through the scorching scalp burn  and broken hair from a relaxer creme that was left on too long,..........it’s a resounding YES!  It is no wonder that the hair extension category of our industry has grown immensely in the last few decades.  It’s because so many are losing hair to the short and LONG term effects of the sodium hydroxide (lye) culprit.   You can watch the movie by Chris Rock, “Good Hair” to get an education that has stirred the community in good and not so good ways!

If you can imagine the hair follicle in the scalp for just a moment, there is a space between the skin of the scalp and the side of the hair.  Imagine it like a vase and the long stem of your flower (you hair) is standing at attention.  Where the gap between the stem and the edge of the vase(scalp/skin/follicle) is where the damaging factors get in.   If you can imagine 80,000 of these vases arranged next to each other, that would be the view of a head of hair, each vase representing the follicle and the flower stem each hair.   Now, when a relaxer cream is applied, that cream gets onto the lip of that vase and slides rite down the hair INTO the vase where the water should be.  In this example, where the stem meets the bottom of the vase, would be representative of where the bulb of the hair gets its nourishment from the blood capillaries.  BUT, when this sodium hydroxide, a very caustic chemical (same stuff that unclogs drain pipes) gets into that bulb area, it burns the bulb.  That’s what every woman knows the feeling of, but only relates to it as a sign to rinse it off!  The problem is that when that gets to the bulb, the damage is being done in a long term way.   After monthly treatments, this continues to burn that bulb, and also the vase begins to loose its shape, thus flattening down and out further exposing the root of the hair, allowing the sodium hydroxide to get in there even easier.    Over time, the hair thins, and the scalp starts to shine!  It is not the shine anyone is looking for, and you who have had this happen over the years know what I mean.   It just keeps getting worse, until extensions, wigs, etc. are necessary to cover the glaring baldness.

In developing our products, we came up with a solution that protects the scalp better than anything on the market today including those in the synthetic and “trusted” categories for ethnic care.   In fact, the only place one will “burn” is the spot that gets missed in the stylists application.  In fact, because the scalp is so protected, it will require timers to know when the hair is relaxed fully, rather than running to the sink to stop the burn.  It also allows better straightening with less chances of breakage.

Take Your Hair off th Grill!!!

Even though your flat iron rheostat may say 400 is the highest, that is only the temperature that each plate is when it is open.   The moment you clamp hair between the two plates, the temperature can spike upwards of 500 degrees! Hair is a fabric, and just like when you are ironing a piece of clothing, it’s a good idea to use the appropriate setting for the kind of fabric you are ironing.  400 degrees is usually sufficient for most textures of hair.  I set the rheostat on 360 and count on the closing of the plates together to increase the heat no more than 420.  If you are taking small enough sections, you will evenly distribute the heat to the hair, but if you take large sections, the hair that is sandwiched in the middle never gets enough heat, and the strands direcliy touching the plates gets too much heat.   This kind of negligence leads to crunchy, crispy and split ends especially mid-shaft. Take thinner sections, take your time and move the iron at a moderate pace down the strand.  And Remember.... the finest protection starts with EnCore Leave In Conditioner.  A bit of Taffy or Simply Straight refines the shine and adds more protection from the heat AND from the humidity!  Following up with SpotLite Shine is essential to replenish.

Remember when you shampoo the next time, always use RoMANce Deep Conditioning Treatment, whether you think you need it or not, to nourish the inner cortex of the strand since the iron removes enormous moisture from the hair to maintain its straightness.
